Did the GDPR spoil Valentine's Day for singles across Europe?  We think not!  The Irish Data Protection Commission, after receiving notification on the 3rd of February 2020 that a dating feature was to be rolled out in time for Valentine's Day, conducted an inspection at Facebook Ireland Limited’s offices where documentation was gathered.  The DPC voiced their concern that they had not received the necessary documentation from Facebook before the launch.  Usually, such projects involving profiling of data subjects on a large scale would require a data protection impact assessment (DPIA) be performed, and it seems as though the DPC had expected some form of request for consultation on the matter as possibly risks exist that could not be easily mitigated.
